Did your AI give you questions to ask us?
Our AI will answer them

Plenty of people find us after asking ChatGPT or Claude what they should ask a bookkeeper before engaging one. If that's you, paste the whole list below. Every question, exactly as it came out.

You'll get a straight answer to each one in about thirty seconds. Same answers we'd give you on a call, without waiting for the call.

We'll give you our published fees and what moves them. A firm fee for your business needs a look at your Xero file first. Everything else, ask away.

What you paste is sent to our AI provider to generate the answers, and to us if you request a call. We keep it for 30 days to improve the answers, then delete it. Nothing here is tax, legal or financial advice. Our privacy policy covers the rest.

Common questions about AI answers: FAQs about Digit

A reconciled bank account tells you the cash is right. It says nothing about whether the rest is. So we reconcile the balance sheet accounts too: payroll liabilities against the payroll reports, super against what's actually been paid, GST and PAYG withholding against the BAS, clearing and suspense accounts cleared rather than parked, loans and intercompany balances agreed. If something's sitting where it shouldn't, we find out why rather than leave it for your accountant.
Timesheets and changes come to us before the run. We set up new starters, process terminations and adjustments, then prepare the run and send you a summary to approve. Once you approve, we process it in Xero, lodge Single Touch Payroll (STP) with the ATO and confirm it's accepted. Super is calculated and submitted on schedule. Leave balances update. Then payroll is reconciled back to the balance sheet so the liabilities agree. At year end we finalise STP and reconcile the lot for your accountant.
Someone else picks it up the same day. Every client has a documented workflow on top of our standard procedures, and a second person is already trained on your file. Payroll has its own team, so a pay run doesn't wait for one person to get back. That's the thing a solo bookkeeper can't offer, however good they are.
Both, and we'll say so first. Leadership, BAS agent oversight and client relationships are in Australia. Most of the team is in the Philippines, employed directly by us. Not an agency, not subcontracted. Most of them are CPAs and around half are registered BAS agents here in Australia. Your data stays on Australian systems; they work in it through secure sessions under Australian supervision.
Fixed monthly fees, priced on the activity in your business rather than the hours we spend. Bookkeeping starts at $850 a month plus GST for a small business, and $2,000 for a growing one that needs payables, receivables and cashflow management handled too. Payroll is from $12.50 per person per pay run. Each entity gets its own fee. What moves the number is transaction volume, how many entities, and the state of the file when we take it on.
We look at the file before we name a number. Invite us into Xero as an adviser and within two business days you'll have what we saw, any questions, and either a fixed fee or a range. We're looking at volume, how things flow in from your other systems, pay run frequency, and whether there's a backlog. Then we say: this is how we'd do it and this is what it costs.
No. We're a registered BAS agent, not a tax agent, so we handle GST, BAS, IAS, payroll and super. Income tax returns stay with your accountant. In practice we do the work underneath theirs: a clean file, a reconciled balance sheet, year-end workpapers. So they're not rebuilding your books in June and billing you for it.
Yes. We only work in Xero. It's a real limitation and we'd rather tell you now than in week three. If you're on MYOB or something older, we've done hundreds of conversions and can move you across.
That depends on when you need the numbers, so we work backwards from there. If you review things on a Tuesday, the books are done Friday and checked Monday. Standard is weekly reconciliation, more often where volume justifies it. Daily is possible, but for most businesses it changes the fee more than the outcome.
Receipts and bills through Dext. Answers when we ask. Approvals before the deadline rather than on it. And a heads-up when something changes: a new hire, a big purchase, a new direction. Most problems we see start with information arriving late, not with anything technical.
