On 22 June 2026, Xero deletes its forums. Not archives. Not freezes. Deletes

If you've ever typed a Xero question into Google and landed on a thread where some bookkeeper had solved the exact problem you were stuck on three years earlier, that thread is about to disappear. New discussions were switched off at the start of June. From tomorrow, the whole lot comes down

I've been watching this one with mixed feelings, because I run a Xero community too, and I know what these spaces are worth when they work and how quickly they rot when nobody's tending them

What Xero Central Discussions actually was

For years, Discussions was the public square inside Xero Central. You'd hit a wall. A bank feed that wouldn't reconcile, a payroll setting that didn't behave the way the help article said, a reconciliation quirk that only showed up at quarter end. So you'd search the forum before raising a support case. Half the time someone had already been there. Often the person answering wasn't Xero at all. It was another business owner, or a bookkeeper or accountant who'd seen it a dozen times and could tell you the fix in two lines

The best answers in that forum usually didn't come from Xero. They came from practitioners who answered for free, because that's what people in this trade do. It was the same instinct behind getting genuinely good at Xero: you learn it from people who use it daily, not from a manual

It wasn't perfect. The forum had a long-standing habit of surfacing "Official" and "Best" replies at the top and tucking the rest underneath, which meant you sometimes had to dig past the sanctioned answer to find the one that actually worked for your situation. Users complained about it for years. Search was clunky

But it existed. It was searchable. And when it worked, it was the fastest way to get unstuck without lodging a ticket and waiting

Is there a replacement for Xero Central Discussions?

There's no replacement

I went looking for the "we're closing this but here's the new home for conversations" announcement, the one every platform writes when it migrates a community. It isn't there. Xero's retirement notice points people in three directions instead: raise a support case, post to Xero Product Ideas if you want a feature changed, or use the Advisor Directory if you want hands-on help

None of those is a community. They're a help desk, suggestion box, and referral page

A support case is one-to-one and private. You get an answer, the case closes, and the next person with your exact problem starts from scratch because your conversation was never public. It's still the right move when you're properly stuck, and it's worth knowing how Xero support actually works so you use it well. But Product Ideas is for telling Xero what to build, not for asking another user how they handled month-end. And the Advisor Directory is a list of firms, which is useful when you want to hire someone, less so when you just want to know why your GST report won't balance at 9pm on a Sunday

So the practical effect of 22 June isn't only that old threads vanish. It's that the one place inside Xero's own ecosystem where users helped each other in public is gone, and nothing public is taking its place

I don't think this is Xero being careless. Forums are expensive to moderate and they age badly. An answer that was correct in 2021 is actively wrong after three rounds of product changes, and a half-stale forum does real damage to a support brand. I understand the call. But understanding it doesn't fill the gap it leaves

Why the public part matters more than it sounds

The thing a support ticket can't do is help the person who comes after you

When a bookkeeper answers a payroll question in the open, that answer keeps working. It gets indexed, gets found, and saves the next hundred people the same ticket. A private case helps exactly one person and then evaporates. Multiply that across every "how do I" question a Xero user has ever had, and a public forum is doing an enormous amount of quiet work that nobody notices until it's switched off

That's the bit being lost tomorrow. Not the platform. The compounding

Where the conversation can go next

I started the Xero Users Support Community on Facebook back in 2015, and not because Xero Central was bad. It was good at showing people how to do things in Xero. Click here, then here, then save. What it never did was connect with the why. Why a business owner should code something a particular way, why a process matters, why the "right" button in Xero might be the wrong move for how you actually run your business. That gap is what I wanted a place for

Eleven years later the group's still running, free and global, with more than 36,000 members. The independent community has outlasted the official forum, which I didn't see coming in 2015

It's a mix of business owners, bookkeepers and accountants from around the world, all volunteering their time to help each other out. Nobody's paid to be there. People pitch in based on their own hands-on experience with Xero, which is what makes the answers good. It's also why the opinions shared there are never a substitute for professional advice. Someone telling you how they handled a GST coding question is a starting point, not a ruling. For your own situation, check with your bookkeeper, accountant or BAS agent

What you can do there is simple. Ask the question you're stuck on. Share the fix that took you two hours to find so the next person finds it in two minutes. Answer someone else's question if you know the answer. If a question is region-specific, say which country it relates to. Xero's payroll and tax behaviour varies by country, so it helps to know where you're asking from

The one thing we ask is that the helping happens in the open, not in DMs. A private message solves it for one person and then disappears. An answer in the group gets searched and found and reused. That's the whole point of a community over a support ticket, and it's the thing being switched off tomorrow

Closing tomorrow. If you've got threads in Xero Central you've leaned on, today is the day to copy or screenshot anything you want to keep. After 22 June 2026 they're gone for good

It isn't a like-for-like swap for an official forum baked into the product. But it's public, it's full of working bookkeepers and accountants who answer for free, and it isn't going anywhere on 22 June

If you want somewhere to keep asking the questions you used to ask there, the Xero Users Support Community is here. Come in, and ask away

The forum's closing. The conversation doesn't have to
