Common questions about Xero Training

No. Xero targets business owners rather than accountants, and most people pick up the basics in a few hours. Core tasks like reconciling bank transactions, sending invoices, and paying bills feel intuitive once someone walks you through the workflow. The more advanced features - Find and Recode, Cash Coding, bank rules, and reporting customisation - take a few weeks of regular use to master. Structured training with a Xero certified advisor accelerates the learning significantly compared to self-teaching
Xero provides comprehensive videos and support through Xero Central. Xero Central shows you how to action things in Xero. To understand the context behind those actions, we recommend doing some training with a bookkeeping firm like us - to show you the why behind the how. As Xero Certified Advisors, we have been helping hundreds of small businesses learn Xero for almost a decade
Xero is designed to be easy to learn and use for non-accountants. We find that most people can learn the basics in a few hours to navigate the software and find their way around when guided in a one-on-one training session. Getting the hang of using Xero and exploring all the features can take a few weeks to learn
Yes it can! Each training session is all about the questions you want answered - so we always start with understanding what you would like to cover. We also ask for access to your Xero account ahead of time to see how you are actioning things currently and provide context for the training session. It's important to us that you get the most value out of every Xero training session. Doing the training in your own Xero account gives you the context you need to be successful
Yes. Xero provides free resources through Xero Central, their main support site. Xero Central covers how to action specific tasks within the software. What it does not teach is why certain things need to be done, or how bookkeeping workflows like GST reconciliation fit together in practice. For that context, structured training with a Xero certified advisor is significantly more effective than self-teaching
We do both. Training in person is the most effective way to learn as we can step through processes in Xero together, and answer your questions quickly. Otherwise we do run training sessions online over Zoom - where we log into Xero, share a screen together and work through your questions together
It's up to you. We recommend one-on-one for most people because we tailor the session to your Xero file and your questions. Small groups of two to five work well when multiple people need the same foundation. For larger teams, we run workshops customised to your business
